The Finnish pancakes are amazing! We really enjoyed our breakfast here and would absolutely go back if we were in the neighborhood.

Top notch food. Ordered Pastys as takeout, absolutely delicious. Ladies behind the counter were super sweet as well. Would absolutely recommend Suomi to anyone!

Great breakfast and service! We were seated pretty quickly for a busy morning after church. Will definitely come again!

Great breakfast place in Houghton. They make the corn beef hash nice and crispy, as well as the hash browns. Clean, tidy standard diner set up. Prompt and friendly servers. Great spot to stop for a quick, filling, well prepared breakfast.

Such a cute little Finnish breakfast spot. It's a first come first serve restaurant, and you walk in and write your name and party size in a notebook. We waited about 30 minutes for our party of 6, and we were broken up into two tables back to back. The food is different, and definitely delicious. The pannukakku is a texture like a custard, and the warm raspberry jam is the perfect addition to it. I have never had anything like it! The nisu French toast was pretty good, like a standard French toast. Next time I'd like to try the cinnamon version, I'd imagine it just elevates it even more. The hashbrowns can be ordered with or without grilled onions, and I ask for mine well done - I like a CRISPY hashbrown. It needed some salt and pepper, which is an easy fix tableside! The rice pudding I did not like, it was just the texture for me. It's a Finnish rice pudding, so it's served warm and it's like an eggy custard mixed with rice. I think I'm just used to cold rice pudding, but I'm glad I tried it anyway! Staff were super sweet and we all had no qualms with how anything went.

Flavorful pasty with a light flaky crust. Reasonably priced. Excellent friendly service, with down home atmosphere. Tasty vegetable soup. Great for breakfast or lunch.

Delicious food paired with an inviting welcome. Glance at the fun artwork and leave with a full stomach! I'd suggest to arrive early for seating. I ordered the Pannukakku and it was a delight! I'd describe it has fluffy custard.

Must stop whey in town excellent food breakfast and lunch closes up a bit early so check your watch before you go. Get the pannu when you're there.

This place was so good! I went here with my husband and his family for breakfast. We were seated right away and our waitress was really prompt and friendly. I was floored at the menu because I couldn't believe how reasonably priced everything was! We got the Finnish pancake (pannukakku) and breakfast pasties. Omg, I can't believe how good these were and I don't think I'd be able to find anything like these in California! I can see why this place gets busy. The prices are great, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious. Definitely go here!

We wanted to visit Suomi to try out their Finnish food on our last trip to the Keweenaw Peninsula a couple of years ago, but they were closed those couple of days. This time around, we couldn't miss out and stopped by for a late brunch. We decided to get pannukakku, which basically everyone recommends, and the homemade biscuits. Pannukakku w/ Nisu Toast ($7.65) - The dish comes with two pieces of Nisu toast (costs extra), which is essentially just white bread enriched with cardamon. It's a nice warming spice that isn't used in bread very often other than in Nordic countries, so it's a nice departure from normal toast. The bread is toasted on one side with margarine, with the other side being grilled (at least, the grill markings imply that). The grilled side looks burnt but doesn't have any acrid taste. If you want a richer taste, there's individually wrapped pats of butter on the table. The pannukakku is very interesting. The interior batter is tender, delicate, with an almost jiggly-like consistency. It reminds me a lot of the egg custard in a pastel de nata or HK egg tart. It's lightly sweetened and perfectly delicious. The batter on the exterior is heated to a greater extent than the interior, making it a bit firmer, almost like a very moist and bouncy pie crust. Overall very delicious. It's served with a cup of raspberry jam that has a thinner consistency, making it spreadable and dippable. (5/5) Spicy Chicken on Biscuit and Gravy ($8) - I only ordered this because the menu stated that the biscuit is a homemade baking soda biscuit. The chicken here is fried with a good exterior crisp. Some parts taste a little bit more oily like it wasn't allowed to drain that well. The interior isn't particularly moist but isn't dry either. I feel like this is a simple food service chicken patty cooked in a fryer since the thickness and breading are quite uniform. Not bad, but nothing really exciting. The sausage gravy here is also quite generic, like something you would find in a budget to mid-tier hotel breakfast buffet (think Best Western or the like, better than the super budget hotels, but not anything like a homemade sausage gravy). It complements the other items on the plate well, but once again, is kind of generic tasting and nothing special. The biscuit here is fluffy and buttery in texture. It has more of a cake-like crumb (not layered at all) similar to that of a simple drop biscuit. (3/5) There's a good reason everyone raves about the pannukakku served at Suomi - it's just so delightfully different from most other food you can get at the typical brunch diner. The other food at Suomi feel a bit more generic but are perfectly good to eat. You won't be disappointed trying out some of the more Finnish entries here. Bathrooms - Both are located to the rear of the building. Men's room is one urinal, one stall, women's room is a single room stall. Overall rating of the food this visit: 4/5
